A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE BROOKHAVEN ACADEMY LADY COUGARS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE DISTRICT 4 AA CHAMPIONSHIP, THE SOUTH MISSISSIPPI CLASS AA CHAMPIONSHIP AND THE STATE AA CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars Basketball Team finished the 1998-1999 season with a remarkable perfect record of 41 wins and no losses; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars participated in several tournaments and won titles at the Rebul Invitational and the Brookhaven Academy Holiday Invitational; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars also won the District 4 AA Tournament, the South Mississippi Class AA Tournament and the State Class AA Tournament; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Barry Gray and Assistant Coach Penny Mitchell, who have broadened the Lady Cougars' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Brookhaven Academy; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars Basketball Team and their coaches, Head Coach Barry Gray and Assistant Coach Penny Mitchell for their phenomenal 1998-1999 season, for winning the District 4 AA Championship, the South Mississippi Class AA Championship, the State Class AA Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Brookhaven Academy, Head Coach Barry Gray and Assistant Coach Penny Mitchell.
